This project explores futility, absurdity, and uncertainty through research of performance, public installation and art intervention in natural spaces, using experimental film and documentary archives to express the process of attempting, and hopefully passing on to those in the doldrums the hope that is still to be pursued in the depths of despair. It represents the light and hope in the distance, to realise the meaning of life across the difficulties. The film shows the process of the artist finding a town called Hope, which is located in a valley, and then attempting to bring a solar-powered light installation to the top of the mountain, so that the lights themselves can draw energy during the day and light up at night. Distant Things Will No Longer be Revived 墟 I: 遥远的事物将不再复苏 Performance-Video，10'00''，2024 Scenes are vehicles of memory, reproduced in the mind through images, sounds and perceptions. In "Mounds and Ruins: Elapse and Remembrance", Wu Hong writes that ruins symbolize both transience and an obsession with the flow of time - it is these two complementary dimensions that together define the materiality of ruins. Thus while the past elapses with time, it simultaneously expresses the symbiosis of grief and vitality. The performance happened on a dead volcano in the desert. In a desolate and isolated environment, only the sound of steps rubbing against the volcanic earth, the wind and the breathing, gazing at puny life and massive death. It's a process, it's a memory revisited, it's a climbing practice. It's an attempt to try to fit into nature due to a sense of lack, and it's also a farewell. Distant things will no longer be revived. Something that once existed, something that passed away, and something that still exists. It is the equivalent of sealing off all the pain that we need to face, essentially perhaps delaying our experience of pain. Psychologically speaking, sleeping too much is a form of avoidance of reality, and Spiritual Bypassing, coined by psychotherapist John Welwood, is 'the tendency to use spiritual thoughts and practices to avoid or refrain from confronting unresolved emotional issues, trauma, and unfinished developmental tasks'. An eternal journey undertaken by the outsider in search of a place to belong. The collective disorientation loosens established logic amidst the contradictions, repetitions and deviations of the senses. To continue onward in the liminal state between the visible and the invisible until they lose their position of observation. A shift from seeking the external to finding one’s own landscape, experiencing endless drifting along the way, yet unable to return to the same starting point. The abstract narrative expresses questions about life, the ebb and flow of life's journey, its length and tension, the ultimately river crossing and the sense of transcendence. The finite nature of life gives meaning to life. A cross-media experimental theatre combining video, installation and performance. People's fear of death stems from the unknown, fighting the blinders and facing life and death head on. Horizontally, it is a complex relationship of seemingly separate individuals that are nested and linked and cannot be separated. Vertically, as the individual expands in space, the individual is continually squeezed, creating cages that bind them to themselves. The contradiction between intimacy and public relations, the collision of fragility and solidity, holds up the faltering life system.
